Redd-Bunker-Reichgott 2013 – Vernal Equinox Newsletter

Posted on June 12, 2014

For years, the Bunker-Redd family has received an annual (printed) newsletter for the Winter Solstice from beloved old friends (from the Lehigh U. circle). Recently other old friends (also from Lehigh) emailed a winter (February) summing-up of the previous year’s activities, claiming that people are too busy in December to do justice to catching up with friends. These efforts inspired me to do the same, but for the Vernal Equinox, which takes place just before 1 pm (in the time zone where I reside) on Thursday March 20, 2014.

On the equinox (meaning “equal night,” people experience – 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness – all over the world. The March equinox occurs the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator. This will occur just before 1 pm on Thursday March 20. On any other day of the year, the Earth’s axis tilts away from or towards the Sun. But on the two equinoxes in the spring and the fall, the Earth’s axis tilts neither away from nor towards the Sun.vernal-equinox

January 2013 dawned gray for Adrienne, who had worked on the (triumphantly victorious) Obama campaign, but who had quit teaching to do so and was left without a major project early in 2013.

In early 2013, Rick was still working for Procurian but changed jobs for the Neat Company which makes scanners and super-cool optical character recognition and cloud storage software (thus the name, “Neat” so one can battle the “paper monster.”
